Since I posted some things about cleaning, I figured I might as well post things about typesetting for those who want to learn as well. These are some basic typesetting guidelines(and random tips mixed in) that'll make your typesets look good and are useful to know.

---Font Sites---
Obviously, as a typesetter you're going to need a nice variety of fonts. Here are good places to get fonts.
http://www.unblessed.net/guide/main.html Typesetting > Fonts (has good basic fonts to start off with)
http://www.dafont.com/new.php
http://betterfonts.com/
http://www.blambot.com/

Perch wanted typesetters to use Wild Words as a base(like for bubbles). As for frills or extra fonts as long as its easily readable(no really swirly fonts) then its fine. Also, don't gray the text because that can be hard to read.

---Text Formation---
Make sure that your text formation is rounded because it'll look neater that way.

Good: No words sticking out oddly and is rounded, suiting the bubble's shape

Bad: Uneven and looks awkward inside the bubble

Square: A squarish or rectangularish looking formation isn’t necessarily bad, but if it can be neatly rounded it needs to be rounded.

---Font Sizes---
Be consistent with your font sizes. It looks neater and saves time since you are not changing the font size all the time. You should change the font size when the bubble is substantially bigger or smaller and at times for emotional effect, but don't enlarge the font every single time a person yells. A bold/italic effect will usually do or if it’s an extreme yell than you can either change the font and/or arrange the letters in an exaggerated way in the bubble. For the wild words font, I usually use 14px. However, this can vary depending on the typical bubble size of a manga. Use the font size that suits it the most. Just make sure it’s not too big or small. Also, since some of the raws we get is kind of small(like some projects have 700-800px heights instead of 1200px), its okay if the text crowds the bubbles some for readability.

Too Big

Too Small

---Stroke---
Make sure there is a 2px or 3px stroke around text that is on top of images or patterns otherwise the stroke will be too thin(making the words hard to read) or too big(like it has its own raft).

---Centering Text inside Bubbles---
Text should be centered inside the bubbles.

Off Center

Centered

---Side Handwritten Text---
For the handwritten text that appears inside the bubble, you can angle them and arrange them close to the bubble's edge. Commonly used fonts are Augie and Kristen ITC.

---Joined Bubbles---
Bubbles that are attached to each other can still be treated as if they aren't attached. Of course, you need to make sure that the text isn't too close to each other but you can still round and center the text in each of their bubbles without putting them at polar ends.

---SFX---
For SFX, use a font that looks like the original text or at least appropriately represents the SFX. Also, make sure you stylize the SFX the same way as the original text. For instance, if it is white with a black border than make the translated SFX that you type in white with a black border.

If the SFX is not cleaned out then you can put a SFX note (SFX: Splash or <SFX: Splash>) along the panel.

When you put the translated SFX in, you can use Warp Text to modify the text so that it can look like the SFX it represents.

Instead of warping the text, sometimes you may stagger the individual letters for effect. When you do this it’d be better to put the letters in one folder so that you can keep them together and it’ll be neater. Also, if you need to move all the letters at once it’ll be easier to do so since you just need to select the folder to move them together.

---Hearts, Music Notes, Etc...---
Sometimes there may be a heart at the end of the original text in the raws. Take that heart and fit it to the end of your typesets as well. There may be times when the heart isn't attached at the end but in the middle of the text. At those times, you'll need to figure out where in the text the heart is suppose to be and put it there. Treat it as if it is part of the text.

Don't leave the heart floating off on its own in the middle of nowhere.

Center the heart with the text

I hope this helps and if there is anything I missed feel free to tell me so that I can include it in the list.(P.S. for those who care I'll eventually get to those more advanced tutorials -_-')
