*waves* Hello! You know, I just realized that I've never made a hello topic myself...0.o
Hello, I'm Perch. The Evil Hate Cow (read admin) of this site and the typesetter and occasional cleaner for A Willful Muse. *waves*
I love to read...it's my number one hobby and I'll read just about anything. I just recently read Psyche in a Dress by Francesca Lia Block and I've been diligently saving my copy of Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman as a train book for my trip. I haven't had a lot of time to read novels in the last couple of months because of juggling everything, but I'm hoping to make the time in few weeks when my personal life calms down some.
My favorite genres are paranormal fantasy, victorian/gothic literature, classical mythology/literature and science fiction.
I have managed to read a lot manga and comic books because they're usually half hour or less reads for me and they're a nice treat after a hard day of running around. And my local library has a great manga program geared towards teens...I'm only a little bitter at being excluded from discussion groups because I'm too old.
I'm 28, soon to be married and have three cats.
My favorite current manga is +Anima, Rave Master, Fairy Tail, Claymore, Dazzle, Deadman Wonderland, Gunslinger Girl, D.Gray-man and Ah My Goddess.
I also read a lot of American Comic Books geared towards younger people...Tiny Titans, Teen Titans Go, Batman Strikes, Just League Unlimited and some comics geared towards adults Hellboy, Fables and Jack of Fables and Marvel's Ultimate imprint and DC's Vertigo imprint. I've been reading comics since I was 8, but I shy away from most of the "main" comics nowadays (like X-men, Batman and the rest) because I haven't agreed with the industry's movement towards "shock" writing and retconning of most peoples pasts to feature dark episodes to help justify their present actions...Don't let me get started. I won't stop. Oh and because I think a lot of the storylines of the past five years have been really bad, cliched and had plots twists a blind puppy could spot.
I'm also an avid Anime and American Cartoon watcher. I enjoy animated work and have since I saw my first Bugs Bunny cartoon when I was a tiny perch. I do watch "real people acting" shows too, but if I have time to watch a show, I usually put in an anime or cartoon as it's easier to catch an episode with dinner.
Right now we're watching D.Gray-man (we're only on the first twenty or so don't spoil me!) and alternating in Code Geass Season 1. I've also been catching Soul Eater, Slayers Revolution, Sekirei and Strike Witches weekly...
I also play MMO's with my partner. We're currently on a break from World of Warcraft (I don't know if I can go back to it actually...wow is extremely addicting for me...like I don't do anything but play wow for days on end) and we've just recently put down City of Heroes/City of Villains (there are only so many times I can fight thugs in the same abandoned warehouse!) and are actually playing Everquest 2 again for the first time in years. I also enjoy the Disgaea series for the console a great deal (want ps3 for Disgaea 3 so bad! and to find a copy of Disgaea 2 anywhere) and I'm a fan of Soul Caliber (new game soon!).
Before I decided to start up the scanlation group (and stumbled over a translator I was able to trap...I mean gently persuade into working with me) I also used to write fanfiction and make a lot of icons for LJ. I also watched a lot more weekly anime shows (I still need to go through last season's batch and download anything that looks good) and I was heavily into the "music file sharing" scene. I gave the hobbies up in order to be able to scanlate.
I don't regret it...though I feel bad for anyone that was waiting for me to finish that Fairy Tail fanfic I was writing...
ORIGINS OVER! TL;DR

I didn't know D. Gray Man has anime. I've just been following its manga.
You've omitted what time zone you live in. :O I still haven't figured out if Perch is from the west coast too, or if Perch just doesn't sleep.

Perch is in the west coast. Pacific Time Zone for the win! Except for everyone that's been waiting all day Tuesday for releases!
I also don't sleep a lot. That's why sometimes I say, sorry, I crashed if the releases are later in the day than usual. <.<

WOW.
So anyway, hi perch! And welcome, lols, to the only person to register before me and the only other person with more posts than me! (mwah, imaginary power surges through Lynz)
Yay for real books, not just manga, for it passes too quickly, sob.
Teehee, I look forward to seeing you around the forums, perch~ lols.

Wow! Nice! I finally know more about Perch! What's an evil hate cow though?
Ha! No wonder we get along so well, almost the same age and I love all times of anime, manga, comics and cartoons too! My only problem is the my partner isn't as into them as I am!
You're so lucky that your local library has such a good manga program! I remember reading the few manga that the chinese community center library near me carried when I was growing up. Now I have a collection of my own in chinese but I have to donate all of it because i"m moving into a smaller flat!!! Ugh! I'm hoping to donate it to the local library though, probably the one in chinatown new york because all of it is in Chinese, so at least it'll encourage kids there to learn chinese maybe.

@ Fye
I'm sorry for the loss of your cat. Losing an animal is always tough. *hugs*
@ Kkarth
Yes, I like the west coast. I was originally from Rhode Island, but I've really been enjoying it out here.
@ Firestarryl
That sucks that you have to give up some of your collection because of space issues. I was shocked when I found out it had a nice manga collection. I'm part of three of the systems out here and only the one closest to me has anything nice. Even the Seattle system is pretty bad.
And Evil Hate Cow is a term my best friend and I came up with years and years ago when we were heavily into the X-men fandom. It's for people like us who will never be (or want to be) a "Big Name Fan" but who recognize that a lot of fandom is about people paying attention to you and having it be "all about me". It was a self-mocking of the sillier aspects of fandom and how people can get TOO serious about stuff.
That said....
I AM THE EVIL HATE COW! Now everyone direct your attention to me and ask me all the questions so that you're not bothering the rest of the staff. Especially PM's (not here) demanding the next chapter of X manga or your random forum (not here) comments about "God, they're so slow! What with their WHOLE two weeks between releases! I mean geez, waiting the two years between releases from before was almost better! I don't know how we can live waiting for our manga under such strict and stingy conditions!"
Yeah, I take those hits for the team.
Edited:
My best friend helped to clarify us by stating "Evil Hate Cows want all the adoration and benefits of being a Big Name Fan, but without any of the responsibilities...". I'm technically a very bad Evil Hate Cow because I take too much responsibility. She's telling me that I shouldn't use the Evil Hate Cow anymore, I should be the opposite...
HAPPY LOVE OCTOPUS!

Yo Perch,
Great intro! I'm from a different continent, Asia. While I'm typing this now (which is 2am here), it's probably mid-day at your place.
I love the internet! Chances are we probably will not meet each other, but it's great to find another person with different background and culture who shares the same interest as me.
It has been great working with you and the team. Keep up the good work!
