Firestarryl

Hi all!

Hi Everyone!  I'm Firestarryl, and if it's too long, you can just call me Fire.  I probably am what you would call a manga otaku, and it's gotten so bad that even my boyfriend, who knows nothing about these kinds of things, has learned enough to call me that!

Besides having manga as one of my true loves, I also like reading science fiction, fantasy and horror, cooking, traveling, and water sports.  One day when I get old and retire, I hope to write sci-fi and fantasy in a cute house by the beach!

My favorite mangas right now besides the ones I'm working on are Skip Beat!, Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!, Hot-blooded woman, Red River, and many more!  Translating good manga has been really fun and I really like reading everyone's comments, so please keep posting.  Also, I always welcome feedback on my translations because I want to deliver the best translations I can, so again, feel free to post comments to me in the forum on any of the serious I am working on.

It's way late so I have to stop.  Time flies by when you're having fun! Cheers!
lynzajw

Oooh~ fantasy, cooking, and travelling! And Skip Beat! and Kaichou too. I think I'm gonna like you~

Speaking of which, WAJLKASJDFOSIURTEWLHK <-- my expression a couple of days ago. Did you know that Kaichou got licenced by Tokyopop? I was writhing in pain over it! (I despise Tokyopop's publishing style with a fiery passion that exceeds all reason, which explains the pain.) Why oh WHY did Tokyopop have to be the ones who got it? WHY? They don't deserve it!

/rant

You can translate? Which means you can understand either Chinese or Japanese? *Lynz uses jealousy!* I know English, French, basic Spanish, and some very basic Japanese, but nowhere near enough to translate it. Ergo, Lynz = very jealous, because Japanese is her favourite of all the above.

Sorry if people speaking about themselves in the third person bothers you, btw.

Good job on being awesome, though. I look forward to seeing you around... maybe we could go to the flying pig show together or something?
Firestarryl

Haha, you're so funny.  I just re-read my post and I must have had too much coffee or something.  It sounds so rushed.

Eeekkk, that's terrible that Kaichou was licensed by TokyoPop!!  If you like the series I've listed and you also watch anime, you might want to try Saiunkoku Monogatari.  It's the latest anime that I'm following.  It used to be on youtube but they removed it (it's on veoh now).

Unfortunately I don't read Japanese, I really like it and want to learn it as well, I just haven't had time.  I know the less cute language, Chinese Wink.
lynzajw

Less cute, perhaps, but I've been trying to get my parents to let me learn Chinese since I was five. Mandarin, to be specific. Though the tones will KILL me. I still plan on taking it in university, though.

I love Saiunkoku Monogatari! I downloaded the whole first season! It's so darn cute, but still kind of has some angstiness, but not real angst - everything needs some drama or I get bored. Plus the female lead isn't as stupid, vapid, and naively annoying as most shoujo heroines. Which makes Lynz a happy girl.

So if you like sci-fi, can you recommend some titles for me? Books or manga, both are good... if there are sci-fi manga series, that is. I've read Ender's Game (SOOOO good) but that's about it for sci-fi.

Me too! <3

I also heard Kaichou was getting licensed. Some of the fans even want to keep doing the scanlations on their own! (because they want to know how the story continues and because some of them don't like Tokyopop, and well, because some of them can't buy it, like me).

Anyway, nice to meet you Fire!
Firestarryl

Now you're done it, I can give you an entire list of my favorites, do you want fantasy too?  It's much easier to find intelligent/brave/and good looking women in Sci-fi =).

I liked Ender's Game a lot as well, Did you read the sequels and prequels to it? They are not as good as Ender's game, but still fun to read.

The entire Honor Harrington series by David Webber is really good, it's one of my favorites series.

The brainship and Talent series from Anne McCaffrey, which is somewhat older, is very good as well.  She was one of my favorite authors.

The Stardoc series by S.I. Viehl good too, with millions of alien races and another smart heroine.  Actually, if I think about it, I think almost all the sci-fi's that I really like have smart heroines...it's the guys that are stereotypical and somewhat boring in sci-fi.

The Miles Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold is good too. Light and heroic.

If you like fantasy too and want something really racy, the earlier books done by Laurell K. Hamilton are good too. I want a harem of awesome men tooo!!!

A fantasy series with a meat but still somewhat racy is Anne Bishop's Black Jewel Trilogy.

Mercedes Lackey's Bardic series and Elemental Master series are good too (also fantasy).

There are more sci-fi and fantasy, but the ones that I listed are really long series so they should keep you busy for a while.  Let me know what you think if you read any of them!

@Fye
Nice to meet you too!  Yeah, I reallly like that series, it's too bad.  I cheated and just read the scans in chinese, but the series isn't complete yet so I'm still waiting for it too.  I read the list of mange you have read in the other topic and I also like and read a lot of the same ones that you listed.

I'm going to have to try and catch up to Lynz's list though...did you just read everything on the Evil Empire?

Edit my mod: Please be careful not to double-post!
lynzajw

No, I didn't just read everything on the Empire! I'm working on that, though... jks, jks. I just start a series every time I think it looks good. I try not to start ongoing series, or to find ones that are already completely scanlated, but it doesn't always work.

In fact, it doesn't usually work.

Nah, I haven't read anything other than Ender's Game. I keep meaning to read the other ones, but I can't find them in my local library and am far too lazy to look beyond that. Thanks for the list, yay! And yes, I'm always open to more fantasy... it's one of my favourite genres, partially because - as you mentioned - it's actually possible to find smart heroines in it. Always a nice change, as I mentioned before. And really long series are a good thing too, as I read freakishly fast. Hence the huge manga list.

@Fye: you can't buy Kaichou if Tokyopop publishes it? Where do you live, child?

Edit: Fire, you used to play the violin too? Also because your parents made you? (Though I think our circumstances were still a bit different) CREEPY. The instrument overlap in this forum is nuts. Yet amusing. Yet nuts. Yet still mainly amusing.

Child! jajajajajaj! I'm quite sure I'm older than most of you!  Wink

I live in Argentina (I should have said that at my presentation post  Embarassed ), so... Even if I were to order them, I prefer or to read the scanlation or wait until the editorial that publishes mangas here decides to edit it (which will take forever).

So, Fire use to play violin too???!! OMG! We have a group of musicians here! Then, I should say that I used to play a little of flute and really little of piano (that's why I always wanted to learn  Sad )
nanachan

I'm so envious that all of you know how to play a musical instrument or two.

I'm great in guitar and drums!! Eh.. does it count if it's video games? HA HA HA HA...I'm good in Nintendo Wii / Playstation Guitar Heroes and Playstation Rock Band!  Very Happy
lynzajw

J'adore rock band!! Not that I own it or anything, I only played it once at a friend of a friend's house. And that was all. But I still loved it, it was very fun and I was pretty good~

@Fye: I call everyone child. 'Tis a bad habit of mine, one of many. I even use it on my parents sometimes.

Hey... wait a second... if you live in Argentina, do you speak Spanish? Do you do you do you? *crosses fingers and hopes for someone to practice with*

We could practically form a band here. Even if Nana-chan's contributions would be more digital than those from the rest of us. Now we just need a singer, lols~

Yeah, you're right with that!  Very Happy
Firestarryl

Ha!  That would be funny.  The only thing I remember how to play at this point is maybe "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"! Lol!  How about I bang on the drums and nanachan sings?

Hablo espanola tambien!!

I'm going to go look for a new avvie now....lynz doesn't like my avvie!  Crying or Very sad
kkarth

Firestarryl

Hehe, thanks!! I understand you'll be my new editor/proofreader for Cat Street!  Please catch all my errors!  Especially as I tend to keep going until I'm exhausted and see blurs in front of my eyes!

NO *@£& WAY ***** WWWHHHYYY?
do you think Evil Empire will still continue?
lynzajw

@Fire: If it's scanlated/scanned, we'll host it. Unless it's done by a group that's asked us not to host their projects. But those groups rarely, if ever, do licenced series.
