Who has the worste job because of spoilers?Who do you think has it worse off from having to see spoilers before the manga gets released?

i voted cleaners. >___<!
if they don't know japanese, they'd be looking at all the pictures and seeing what happens without knowing the dialogue. D:
translators know what's happening before chapters are released. xD;;

I voted the cleaner if we're talking purely spoiler issues.
The translator is following the manga so they're just stuck doing the impatient, "I want to talk about it" dance. The proofreader has the option to get a copy of the raws to use to help follow along so they can also piece it together, and the typesetter gets to insert the bubbles in as they read along so they see it all coming together.
The poor cleaner is stuck without a text, staring at pictures and occasionally trying to figure out how the heck did character a get over there and what is character b doing with that...
If we're talking hardest job I think it's a toss up between the cleaner and the translator. Cleaning is painful after a while! Too much repetitive motion, but the translator is literally filtering language in their brain and then jotting it down. That gets draining mentally. And the proofreaders are trying to read the text and look at the pictures and make sure everything fits together seamlessly between the text and what's happening visually.

Realizes he forgot to throw in his one cent... I lost a penny on my way here ... Any way, spoilers it is the cleaners. I know from experiance, even though it is fun to start making up your own dialog as you go along. A horror/romance/action manga turns into a comedy mature in ten seconds flat.
I do have to feel some what bad for the typesetters though, there forced to read at first grades level...
Hardest I'd have to agree with perch on, translators have to deal with the making a word that means twenty things into only one meaning.

If the position was editing, I'd agree with everyone else, but just cleaning the text, for most mangas, this doesn't really give away a huge amount of the story. Proofreading though... You read the entire thing, even if you aren't seeing the manga, you're getting a good chunk of the story.

i fail to see how this is even a contest. translator hands down.
Cleaners are just removing text. I was 30 pages in before I realized my characters were in a hospital or sorts.
Typesetters are basically just reading the chapter early. No really getting spoiled.
For proofreaders and QC it depends if they're working with just text or the gestalt.

I will vote for the cleaner!! Wouldn't it be frustrating to see what's happening to the characters but not able to understand much?
I kinda read while I translate. I try not to read ahead (unless it's a cliff-hanger). After translating, I'll read through my text again to make sure I translated it correctly during the first read.
When it's released, I will just glanced through to check whether I made any silly mistakes which have been corrected during proofread. Won't want to repeat those mistakes again. Then I'll just chuck it to my folder for completed translations~ kinda like stamp collection

I voted for cleaners. I totally agree with Maru, that even though they don't know what they're talking about, they get to see everything!

I vote for cleaners too. I agree with nanachan, I think it would really stink if you had to see the entire story and not be able to know what they are saying. I also try not to read ahead before I translate so that it can be a surprise. And yes, like Perch said, there is the sitting on the spoilers part of it too, so I avoid going into the forums to talk about the manga or I might post a super spoiler!
Although I'm really glad that our cleaners don't find it too much of a hardship according to their posts! *hands out lollipops*
@wolfkin
I'm so glad that you're so fast at cleaning that you don't feel this way!
@darkendheart
Lol, I'm glad that you have such an active imagination!

I'm not so much fast as I am Zen. You focus on the characters and the pictures fade away. ]
that said I change my mind. It depends on what you're working on. What I said still stands for more cerebral types like Death Note or Liar Game. There's not a lot you can spoiler by pictures in Death Note.
More action type like Naruto could be spoiled by graphics.

Thats when you zoom in to about 500 and continue working, that close to the picture and you cant tell what the hell the picture is. It does get kind of akward when you zoom in that much and find your monitor centered on some ones breast, then of course your friend thats a douche bag just happens to walk behind you and then starts s***...

LOL! @ DarkendHeart's most reccent post.
That would be horrible, especially in a random smut scene. I can imagine that happening. you're in the dorms, and someone just randomly walks in to ask if you wanna go grab something to eat. xD And you're like "yeah sure" *zooms back out* Then your friend sees it.

With my luck I zoom in right as they walk in and since it gets centered it just happens to center on the worst possible spot and they'll be like "If your "busy" I'll come back later..."(Yes I know I put quotes in quotes... DEAL WITH IT!).

As a proofreader, I think we have it pretty bad, BUT I definately think the cleaners, BECAUSE....
THEY GET TO SEE THE PICTURES!!!

The cleaners. Totally the cleaners. I'm doing Cat Street right now and I'm DYING to find out what's happening... whereas when I'm proofing, it's harder to look at the pictures while reading and everything, but I can still follow pretty well. Cat Street is killing me!!

: x Proofreader's job isnt so bad, I just have to go and scan through the most reccent release to make sure I don't accidently slip anything. But on terms of wanting to discuss it, it's not that bad.
But my urge to discuss it and question it is worse off if I was a cleaner. Especially if I'm confused. To compenstate for not being able to discuss. I might erase off someone's head because he looked like he was doing something mean. : o
>_> Then accidently later on think that there was some big sfx or something and forget to go back and paste it back in from the original raw.

The only time proofreading is hard is when the manga makes me want to question the sanity of every being who's ever read, written, looked at, or been in the same room with it. But otherwise, I get to read along so it's not hard.
